Knowing India it probably is not a good idea to go out of the airport without your luggage… It would be okay to have your baggage tagged till Baroda…. but what if they put it on the next flight out of Mumbai to Baroda. Look at all possibilities…. if your flight is the next flight out to Baroda… there is always a possibility of the luggage handlers to put the baggage on the WRONG flight. There is also the possibility of theft.

So whatever you choose to do… be careful and choose wisely….. :) !

    1. As far as I am aware, even if you have your baggage tagged all the way upto Baroda, you still have to take possession of your baggage and then complete immigration and customs. Your baggage does not automatically get transferred to your Jet Airways domestic flight airside.

    2. Once you have cleared Customs, you have two choices. Either you go to the Jet Airways transfer desk and take the free coach to the Domestic Departure terminal

or, you decide to leave the airport and check into an hotel.

You cannot leave the luggage with the transfer desk, because once you leave the airport you will not be allowed back into the terminal, and you will basically have to find your own way to the Domestic terminal. However, you will not be reunited with your baggage if you decided to leave it with the transfer desk and left the airport.

In fact you risk having your baggage being tagged as suspicious baggage because of your absence.

We are frequent travellers to India with onward connections to domestic flights. We always leave the terminal and take our baggage with us to the hotel. We used the transfer desk only once, and had to remain in the departure lounge until our flight the next morning.

If you book one of the hotels at the airport they normally offer a complimentary pickup and drop service. They take charge of your baggage therefore you really have no hassles. Once at the hotel, we leave the baggage with the reception and only take up with us the hand baggage.

The next morning, reception will load your luggage into their airport transport and you can return to the airport.

Nothing could be simpler than that! Hope it answers your concerns.
