You can take either the Gatwick Express or SouthWest trains. Both will get you to Victoria Station. Then get onto the Tube (get a travelcard or an Oyster Card – they are lifesavers, trust me!). Then just take the Circle line toward High Street Kensington and it goes straight to Paddington.

You can catch a Southern train (not South West Trains) or Gatwick Express train to Victoria Station; both services operate every 15 minutes and the Southern which is the cheaper takes 34 to 38 minutes, the Gatwick Express 30 minutes and as the above answer indicates then the Underground Circle Line to Paddington, or buses 36 or 436 from the bus stop in Wilton Road next to Victoria Station.

The cheapest way, at Gatwick station take the southern rail towards Victoria station and then take the District Line (green) or Circle (yellow) tube to Paddington towards Edgware Road.
In 55 minutes you’ll be in Paddington.
