@Lewismadmax , I saw Harry in 1979 , Anchorage Alaska at West High Auditorium and he sang till he had no more left. He was one of the greats who interacted with the audience . During the break he stood in the lobby instead of taking a break and shook hands and talked to people. He played for at least 3hrs.

@butfulmuzik This comment refers to “Cat’s In The Cradle”, not “Taxi.” Just to clear that up for some of the responses I got. Sorry for any confusion, but I was answering a question in this space that was asked about “Cat’s…” Taxi was Harry’s alone and that one was released in 1972.

Harry was born 12/7/42 in New York City, died in a car wreck 7/16/81. Taxi hit the Billboard charts on April 22,1972 was on the charts for 9 weeks and peaked at # 24
WOLD charted 3/16/74 and peaked at 36 after 2 weeks. His biggest hit was Cats in the Cradle which made it to number one. It charted 11/2/74 and was on the charts for 12 weeks.
Harry was a brillant songwriter whose untimely death robbed us of many more poignant songs.

@butfulmuzik –Are you sure this wasn’t released in ‘72? I can remember where I was the first few times I heard it, and I’m pretty sure it was in the summer of ‘72.

To the love of my life, Susie D.I would have written it differently, but i can’t change what was. I was wrong to take off for the sky. God loves you and so do i. Big Gobs.
you see, it’s not about the artist, it’s about his stories.

My dad loved this song, I grew up listening to it. Holds a special place in my heart. A true classic that doesn’t get nearly enough play time!
